The recording studio is Wilurarra Creative’s longest running, and most successful program.
Currently there are 20 music recording sessions every week in the studio, where Indigenous artists work entirely autonomously to record music in their first languages.
Local Indigenous musicians and producers pay a small fee to book in advance. There is a songwriting workstation, a recording studio and many keyboards and instruments for practicing.
There are approximately 3 tracks a week produced here, entirely with Indigenous producers, musicians and songwritiers, in the local Ngaanyatjarra language. From 2008-2010 we have made around 170 original tracks.
This is possible through peer mentoring, advanced studio management systems and hard work. Wilurarra Creative hires and hosts advanced trainers, like Matt McHugh (Skinny Fish) , John Gordon and Rachel Hore to build skills and capacity. Local artists do all their own production.
Producers that have trained here recently have gone on to work at: CAAMA (Alice Springs), Papunya Tula Music Studio (Kintore), NG Media Recording (Wingellina), Garma Festival (Gove/Nhulunbuy).
